During the Fall semester the students are required to develop a research study, write up the introduction and method of their proposal, and do an oral presentation of their proposed study to faculty and students during finals week.
During the Spring semester students are required to collect the data for their study, analyze and write up the results, and then present a poster of their study to faculty and students during Psychology Day, usually the last day of the Spring semester.
Communication 182, which is designed to enhance the students understanding of Research Methods, is an upper division Communication course that is open to all Communication students and is strongly encouraged for students completing the Senior Honors Thesis program.
Students may take Communication 182 during the Fall quarter of their Junior year, prior to their involvement in the Senior Honors program or during the Fall quarter of their Senior year in conjunction with Communication 180.
These units involve class meetings, independent work with the instructor and are designed to culminate in the Senior Thesis.
However, any student who does not earn a grade of either A or A- in Communication 180 will not be allowed to continue with Communication 181A-B, although they will receive full credit for Communication 180.Students interested in writing a Senior Honors Thesis should meet with their Major Advisor and the Classical Studies Honors Advisor early in Winter term of their junior year to indicate their intention to write an honors thesis.By the time of this meeting, students should have developed concrete ideas about the topic they would like to pursue.Senior Honors Students from Recent Years (Please note that we are missing some students, titles, and advisors.If you know one of these, please email the Senior Honors Thesis Advisor, Dr.The Advisors will then decide, in consultation with relevant faculty, whether a student is qualified to write a thesis.For further information, please see the guidelines below. The senior honors thesis program is a two-semester capstone course in psychology, designed for senior majors who are considering going on to graduate school in psychology.The student works closely with a faculty mentor on an individual research project.Additional Considerations Honors students may have graduate student borrowing privileges at the UCSB Library, and are given special consideration in enrolling for Communication courses.Honors students are encouraged to apply for research fellowships in early fall of their senior year.
