Maureen Moran, President of the English Association once commented that as an English student you develop "the insight of an artist, the analytical precision of a scientist and the persuasiveness of a lawyer".[Ref needed] It is generally assumed that English graduates have a limited choice of occupation with teaching being the main career path, however, the transferrable skills and attributes gained is making a wider variety of occupations more accessible with many recent graduates gaining employment in the creative industries, management, publishing and journalism.The list of Senior Essayists, with their assigned supervisors, will be announced the week after applications are due; accepted Essayists should register for the four-point Senior Essay course, English W3999y, during the November registration period.Faculty sponsors will submit an evaluation of the essay and a grade for the essay course to the DUS, and will also return final comments to the student.In addition, participants in the program will be required to attend a bi-weekly series of Essay Seminars, running from November through March, which will supplement their one-on-one advising meetings with sessions on research methods and advanced critical writing (in the fall), and draft workshops (in the spring).Eligibility All senior English majors in the College and in General Studies with at least a 3.65 GPA in their English courses can apply to the Senior Essay Program.
