Use Polite Tone Please stress to the students that the tone of these letters should not be sarcastic, threatening or angry.If they want something to change or a product that works, they need to be clear in their message and polite.There are lots of reasons, but three main ones that will make sense to the kids are: A letter of request; A letter of complaint; A letter of application.

Once students understand the proper block letter format, they can begin composing their complaint letter.

It is best if students are given a scenario to write about in this lesson.

Teaches students the art of writing an effective business letter by writing to actual businesses with a compliment and/or a complaint.

Materials: Text book with a sample business letter format or a teacher handout with a sample business letter format.
